New Orleans - One Year After Katrina

I was cleaning up my room today and found some old photographs that I took while taking photography classes.  I spent some time scanning my favorites in and I’ll slowly post them up on my blog.

However, I found a small box of slides that contained some of the photos I took while on a trip to New Orleans roughly one year after Hurricane Katrina hit.  While most of the city was on its way to recovery by then, it was shocking to see that the storm’s devastation was so complete that it still left very visible marks even a year after.

I scanned in some photos to share.  I’ll admit most aren’t great photos (I took them as I was first learning photography and some seemed to have discolored) but they still moved me.

7. The gutted interior… you can see the line where the water rose to… kinda cool how it stopped right under the cross on the wall.

8. the Superdome (and a pole)

Despite all the damage, it was clear that there was something special about the city of New Orleans… it stays with you even long after you have left.  And it was still visible when I visited last year as well. I’d have loved to go back to many of those locations captured on those slides and taken pictures of how things have recovered on that trip… but I didn’t have time.  But I guess there’s always a next time to do that! :)

Chris Tomlin Concert

I went to the Chris Tomlin Concert at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD (right across the street from my apartment haha).  I was pretty surprised these pictures came out as I was pushing my camera to its limits… I was shooting from the side opposite of the stage at 6400 ISO… then cropping the photos in Photoshop since even at 200mm, the photos were still too “zoomed out” for my tastes.

1. The opening act was Rend Collective Experiment. They were great.  And yes, the girl is playing the trashcan.  She is so cool (she also played the mandolin, xylophone, drums, tambourine, and cymbals!)

Jenny & Edgar E-Session

So about a half year ago, I did an engagement photo shoot for Edgar and Jenny.  I’ve just posted them up now because I was partly busy and mostly lazy :P

It was a lot of fun since both Jenny and Edgar had tons of personality and love for each other… I think it showed in their photos!  It was even more of a treat and honor since I consider both to be very good friends… Edgar was my small group leader in college and Jenny has been my friend since high school!

Anyways, here are some of my favorite photos from the esession!

Victor Oh - Forever Reign (song and pics!)

So my good friend Victor Oh recently released one of his songs on YouTube.  It’s called “Forever Reign.”  It’s a great tune and you should check it out here.

Anyways, I helped take some photos for his video.  Believe it or not, it was shot in the overflow parking lot at our church!  It was fun and per Victor’s wish, some were a little more experimental in terms of post-processing (nothing crazy I suppose but it is different from what I normally do, especially #2-4 below).  Anyways, here are some of my favorites:

California Pictures

On my trip to California, I noticed that there were lots of bright colors wherever I went.  Maybe it’s a Cali thing or maybe its because winter in Maryland is dreary.  I decided to start off my Tumblr by making a photoset documenting the trip using those very colors and patterns.
